Jan-Harm De Villiers

Professor Jan-Harm de Villiers is a legal philosopher and Associate Professor of Jurisprudence in the School of Law at the University of South Africa. He holds BCom (Law) (cum laude), LLB (cum laude), and LLM (Jurisprudence) (cum laude) degrees from the University of Pretoria, as well as a multidisciplinary PhD in Law and Philosophy from the prestigious Leiden University Law School. He has authored several journal articles and book chapters in the academic specialization of animal ethics and is also involved in the field of social activism. He is a co-founder of the Society for People, Environment, and Animal Kindness (SPEAK), a South African organization that promotes respect for all people, animals, and the environment by raising awareness of the laws relating to animals and the interconnectedness of these different elements of the ecosystem.
