Sophie Wenzel

Sophie is an animal and environmental rights activist from Austria. She started her activist work at the beginning of 2020. Since then, she has been involved in various projects and is now activist coordinator for VGT Austria and Plant-based University DACH coordinator.

Sophie co-initiated the campaign in Austria in October 2023, together with her twin Laura. Not only has PBU made a big splash in the Austrian media, triggering a social debate about a plant-based food revolution, but incremental steps have also been taken. In Vienna, as a member of the University of Vienna's Sustainability Committee, Sophie played a key role in ensuring that the University of Vienna is now gradually switching all of its canteens to 70% plant-based and 30% vegetarian. In addition to campaigning, she organizes educational events at the University of Vienna on the topic of the food transition and supports the actual changeover at the canteen itself.

Since the beginning of 2024, Sophie has been the PBU DACH coordinator, supporting other campaign teams in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
