The German meat industry spends millions of euros annually on marketing to deflect public criticism. In February this year, we (Faba Konzepte) launched a platform for the animal rights movements: on www.schlachtindustrie.de we map every single slaughterhouse in Germany and tell the true story. Here, we put corporations and their long-standing, multifaceted misconduct in the spotlight. By gathering open data and publishing information through the Freedom of Information Act, we are creating a database for activists, NGOs, and journalists, as well as for critical farmers, workers, local residents, and consumers. How many animals are being killed each day? Which scandals have been reported? How much CO₂ is emitted? And which slaughterhouse expansions could we prevent?
