1,200 precious lives
The fight for the largest monkey rescue in history
Liz Tyson-Griffin via Zoom

This presentation charts the efforts to carry out the largest monkey rescue in history and the challenges faced along the way. In 2022, 1,200 young long-tailed macaque monkeys were allegedly illegally imported into the United States for the lab trade. Since then, staff at Born Free USA and PETA have been fighting to save these young monkeys from being tortured and killed in labs and are fighting for their release to sanctuary care for their lifetimes. The talk explores the associated burden that is placed on the non-profit sanctuary community by industries which exploit animals and highlights that, ultimately, sanctuary is not the answer. Only abolishing the cruel trades exploiting these animals can protect them from harm.
