The role of international NGOs in shaping the animal rights movement
Petya Petrova

International NGOs, based in the Global North, are actively involved in shaping and directing the animal rights movement in regions of the Global South, where animal advocacy is emerging or still growing. On the one hand, this is the result of ongoing global postcolonial power relations but also happens actively through grants, other project funding, and finally, experience or resource transfer. It is crucial for International NGOs to acknowledge and critically reflect on their role in shaping animal advocacy globally. The presentation will focus on the potential of concepts stemming from development studies to contribute to critical reflection and eventually building a stronger movement.
