Animal rights and the global water crisis |
Katya Burns via Zoom |
My presentation will draw the connection between the United Nations` failure to acknowledge animal rights and the threat to global water sources. I will present evidence to show how the United Nation`s unwillingness to address the ongoing animal rights crisis driven by ever-expanding industrial animal agriculture undermines global water sources, thereby making it virtually impossible to achieve SDG6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Using fresh data that shows how industrial animal agriculture contributes to an expanding water crisis in both the western world and across the global south, I will argue that the United Nation`s unmitigated support for industrial animal agriculture and failure to respect the rights of animals is directly undermining the goals that the United Nations has itself set. My presentation is specifically geared to animal rights activists and organizations and will identify entry points and lay out clear strategies that animal rights activists can use to directly engage in global development discussions about water. |
