Are we animals or cyborgs?
Susan Roberts

What I propose we consider is what it means to be "animal" how being an animal differs from being a machine; and whether in this technological age it really matters anyway. Should we care if our lives are becoming automated: our every action directed by external forces? Do the functional benefits of being a Cyborg outweigh an inconvenient loss of autonomy? In addressing these timely questions, which hold significant repercussions not just for human animals, but for all organic life on the planet, I propose consulting the works of Rilke, philosophers such as Aristotle, Nietzsche and Sartre, as well as futurist Ray Kurzweil and roboticist Hans Moravec.
