A growing number of departments within veterinary colleges worldwide use only non-animal tools within student practical classes. Most colleges also have clinical rotations for students that engage students in patient care, and some have established body donation programs to source animal cadavers ethically. The presentation will follow the trajectory of an ideal, fully humane veterinary degree by using case studies of innovation and replacement that feature in the InterNICHE documentary film series "DVM: Training the Animal Doctor". The evolving film series explores knowledge and skills acquisition at colleges from across the world, featuring interviews and demonstrations of "alternatives" of all types. These ethical and effective methods are considered the norm in the departments featured. These case studies demonstrate the feasibility of a fully humane veterinary education. The video clips will feed into a workshop, with time for questions, a deeper exploration of the topic, and ideas for campaigns.
