In light of the now unavoidable climate collapse, it is important for us in the animal rights movement to rethink our activism and adapt to the circumstances. We want to discuss this topic and present a recent civil disobedience campaign at the Nuremberg Zoo as an example of how we can be effective in our activism in those unstable times of systemic collapse.

As the Nuremberg Zoo started paving the way for the killing of a group of healthy baboons bred and raised on its grounds, Animal Rebellion started an intensive campaign to pressure the zoo away from this decision. This campaign was successful in raising mainstream public awareness for this issue, and got public media outlets questioning whether zoos are ethical at all.
