The numbers of farmed animals confined and killed for human consumption in the developing countries of the Global South far exceed those in the Global North. Across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, new, vibrant, civil-society and non-governmental animal rights organizations are rising to the challenge. Yet, the approaches to funding these organizations remain dominated by a "Western" model that fails to adequately address the unique challenges of the non-Western majority or to take advantage of the many opportunities for raising funds that exist in the Global South. As a result, the bulk of funds for animal rights and welfare remain squarely ensconced in the Global North. This interactive workshop is targeted to NGOs working across the Global South and to philanthropists and philanthropic officers everywhere who would like to learn more about innovative ways to raise funds and mobilize resources to support animal rights work in the Global South. The workshop is hands-on and participant-led. Together, we will consider various models for generating funds and develop real-world tangible plans for moving forward, using innovative and impactful strategies to raise funds for our work to support animal rights.
