Antispeciecism in discourse ethics |
Jendrik Nuske via Zoom |
With its focus on orderly, structured and discourse free of domination, Jürgen Habermas` discourse ethics might at first seem ill-suited for an antispeciecist interpretation. This presentation aims at challenging that assessment, questioning the very basis of Habermas` ethics regarding what defines personhood and the necessity to be included in discourses on morale. From there it means to expound not only the theoretical necessity but also the practical feasibility of introducing animal interests to such discourses. Animals thus shouldn`t merely be treated morally, they ought to be included in discourses on morale as legitimate interlocutors. |
