Recognizing interconnections and building alliances between LGBTQIA*, feminism and animal liberation
India Kandel, Daniela Zysk

Mechanisms of oppression such as – but not limited to – homophobia, transphobia, sexism, racism, classism, ableism, ageism, and speciesism work in similar ways, are interconnected, and therefore must be combated together. Coming from an (eco-)feminist and LGBTQIA* perspective, the talk will provide insights into how the oppression of non-human animals also supports and sustains the oppression and exploitation of human animals and our planet. Having recognized these interconnections, the talk will explore the links between different social justice movements – in particular LGBTQIA*, feminist and animal advocacy – and show why it is crucial to collectively organize to eradicate all forms of oppression.
