WORKSHOP
Saturday, 10.09.2016   14:30-15:20   Room B
Marxism, socialism and animal liberation
Anne Marleen Schade

The Workshop introduces into Marxist economics and the character of exploitation in the capitalist society. What is the role of the workers movement for the liberation of animals? Why do we need a different society to end exploitation? And how do we raise revolutionary consciousness?

The Marxist and socialist workers movement isn`t famous for it`s animal rights aims. But famous people like Rosa Luxemburg knew how the suffering of animals and workers is connected in a capitalist society. And the American socialist Kshama Sawant (member of the CWI section Socialist Alternative), who won the 15$-minimum-wage for Seattle, supported animal rights activists in their struggle to close a disastrous elephant exhibit. Let`s have a look at the achievements of the workers movement and it`s potential to liberate humans and non-humans.
