Attitudes of slaughterhouse workers towards animals and their work
Kristina Mering

The presentation will be based on a research project in sociology for which interviews with slaughterhouse workers were done in order to understand their concepts of their work in relation to animals. One part of the project was also an observation of the killing line where 21 different people fill their duties so an animal becomes merely a piece of meat. In the presentation you will hear the main mechanisms which slaughterhouse workers use in order to cope with the violent nature of their work. It is a necessary part in order to understand the wider concept how humans relate to animals and what power structures of the mind are behind the current situation.
