Nathan McGovern

Nathan has been active in the animal and climate movements since mid-2021, after attending Extinction Rebellion's "Impossible Rebellion" that year. He has been Animal Rising's (formally Rebellion) Press Coordinator since early 2022, gaining experience in a leading media spokes role with Just Stop Oil – notably glueing his hand to a microphone while live on air in a unique and symbolic example of nonviolent direct action.

In his time with Animal Rising, he has overseen its press office during blockbuster protests including its 2022 blockade of the dairy industry, 2023 Grand National disruption, and rescue of lambs from the Sandringham Royal Estate. Over this time, he has engaged with nationally-leading journalists and producers, learning what creates a front-page story and sends a newsroom into overdrive. In 2023, he guided Animal Rising to 12 national newspaper front pages, over 750 print press mentions, and 130+ TV and radio interviews.

In 2021, Nathan was part of the team that founded Plant-based University, a campaign for 100% plant-based university catering. In its short life, the campaign has achieved wins in over 10 UK and European universities, engaged over 400 student volunteers, and featured on primetime TV and radio – spreading the plant-based message to millions.
