PRESENTATION
Saturday, 10.09.2016   18:00-18:50   Room B
Considering the voiceless, it`s time we talked fish.
Wietse van der Werf

Let`s talk fish. Did you know that more animals are killed at sea, than in ALL other animal industries COMBINED? This mad fact is even more shocking when you realize that fish are some of the animals least featured in animal rights campaigns. However, fishing is one of the most cruel and destructive human activities on the planet and protecting fish deserves our focus.

Wietse from The Black Fish talks about the challenges they faced when taking on the fishing industry and how opposition came from unexpected places. He argues that in order to address the fishing issue, the movement has to look beyond traditional activism approaches. During his talk you will get an in-sight look into the seafood industry and learn how The Black Fish now leads the way in citizen-led enforcement efforts, from land, air and sea.
