Deep canvassing for animal rights
Stijn Bruers

Deep canvassing is a new, evidence-based effective persuasion strategy, developed by the LGBT-community in the US. The effectiveness was demonstrated in a randomized controlled trial published in the journal Science. A 10 minute conversation substantially and persistently reduces homo- and transphobia. The method resembles Socratic questioning in philosophy education and motivational interviewing in clinical psychology.

In this workshop I present the evidence for the effectiveness of deep canvassing and demonstrate how we can apply it to the topics of animal rights, veganism and antispeciesism. How can we have effective mind-changing 10 minute conversations with people on the streets?
