Democracies as we know them are nothing of the sort. As a result, nobody in politics needs to feel responsible for individuals without a vote: chief amongst them non-human animals and future generations. This is the problem at the heart of all the horrific apathy and cruelty we fight against.

The animal rights movement must recognize the need to enter politics directly in order to bring about the systematic we strive for. Fortunately, our message has a surprising power to unify and excite citizens, and help them take a collective turn towards a compassionate society.
