Rescuing animals other than cats and dogs and court battles with their oppressors
Why are they important in making a change for animals?
Cezary Wyszyński

Animal protection law in Poland – as well as in some other countries – entitles NGOs to confiscate animals if their lives are threatened and than act as public prosecutor in court. Although the law was initially established to rescue cats and dogs, we use it also to rescue other animals, including farm animals. This way we were able to shift public and media`s opinion on animal rights and show that besides cats and dogs other animals are also capable of suffering. Even though polish law doesn`t work on precedents – once a specific case is won – other courts very often refer to it when ruling. I`ll use examples from Viva`s interventions and investigations: ritual slaughter, bear kept in zoo, live fish trade, circus bear and foxes from fur farm.
